5 Tips For Business Owners to Keeping Your Restroom Vandal-Resistant

open the bathroom door, go to toilet

It’s not a pretty sight. A restroom vandalised with graffiti, food waste and other unsanitary materials. Unfortunately, this is all too common in public restrooms.

Especially as a business owner, it’s important to keep your restrooms as clean and vandal-resistant as possible. Not only is it key to maintaining a good reputation, but it’s also necessary for the health and safety of your employees and customers.

There are a number of reasons why people might vandalise a restroom. In some cases, it may be due to boredom or peer pressure. In others, it may be an act of revenge or a way to express anger or frustration. And in some cases, it may simply be because the person is intoxicated and looking for something to destroy.

The types of vandalism:

  • Spraying Graffiti: This is one of the most common types of restroom vandalism. People will use spray paint to write profanity or offensive messages on the walls or fixtures.
  • Breaking Fixtures: This type of vandalism can range from breaking soap dispensers to shattering toilet bowls. In some cases, people might even try to flood the restroom by leaving the water running.
  • Smearing Food and Waste: This is another gross form of vandalism that involves smearing food, waste or other unsanitary materials on the walls, floors or fixtures.
  • Damaging Lockers and Towel Dispensers: Some vandals will target lockers and towel dispensers, either breaking them or spray painting them.
  • Stealing Toilet Paper and Other Supplies: In some cases, people will steal toilet paper, paper towels or other supplies from the restroom in order to cause an inconvenience for others.

The cost of vandalism is significant. Not only does it cost money to repair the damage, but it also takes time and resources to clean up the mess. In some cases, businesses are forced to close down temporarily while the damage is being repaired. This can lead to a loss of customers and revenue. For example cafes, restaurants, and other businesses that rely on foot traffic may suffer a significant drop in business if their restroom is vandalised.

According to the National Vandalism Prevention Council, vandalism costs businesses and organisations millions of dollars each year. In fact, the average business loses about $2,000 per incident.

Whatever the reason, it’s important to remember that vandalism is a crime. It can result in expensive repairs, and it can also create unsafe conditions for yourself and others. That’s why it’s so important to take steps to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Here are a few tips to help you keep your restroom vandal-resistant:

1. Use high-quality materials: When it comes to choosing materials for your restroom, it’s important to choose ones that are durable and vandal-resistant. This includes everything from the toilets and sinks to the paper towel dispensers and soap dispensers. Look for materials that are made of stainless steel, brass or other tough materials.

2. Install security cameras: Security cameras can be a great deterrent for vandals. If they know they’re being watched, they’re less likely to commit acts of vandalism. Make sure to install the cameras in visible areas so that potential vandals can see them.

3. Use tempered glass: Tempered glass is much more resistant to breaking than regular glass. This means that it’s less likely to be shattered by vandals. If you have any glass fixtures in your restroom, make sure they’re made of tempered glass.

4. Install motion-activated lights: Motion-activated lights can also deter vandals. When they see the lights come on, they’ll know someone is watching them and they’re less likely to commit acts of vandalism.

5. Keep up with maintenance: It’s important to keep up with regular maintenance in your restroom. This includes cleaning the floors and surfaces, restocking supplies and fixing any broken fixtures. When vandals see a well-maintained restroom, they’re less likely to target it.

By keeping up with maintenance, you’ll make it less likely for vandals to target your restroom.

Vandalism can be a costly and frustrating problem for businesses. It can damage property, create unsafe conditions and lead to a loss of customers and revenue. But with the right prevention measures in place, you can help keep your restroom vandal-resistant. Use high-quality materials, security cameras, tempered glass and motion-activated lights to deter vandals from causing damage. And make sure to keep up with regular maintenance so that your restroom remains clean and well-maintained.
