Modern fiberglass doors combine the durability of steel with the low-maintenance appeal of composite materials. High-density fiberglass slabs feature rigid polyurethane foam cores encased in impact-resistant composite skins. Unlike wood, fiberglass resists moisture degradation and denting while maintaining high structural resistance under physical stress.

A solid door slab provides little security if the surrounding frame, hinges, and strike plates fail under pressure. True physical security requires reinforcing every component of the door assembly.

Installing non-removable pin hinges, set-screw hinges, or security stud hinges ensures the door remains anchored within the jamb even if the hinge pins are tampered with.

Structural alignment directly impacts lock engagement and overall frame security. A door that sags, drags across the threshold, or requires manual pressure to pull close creates severe security vulnerabilities.

When a frame shifts out of alignment due to house settling, seasonal wood movement, or loose hardware, the deadbolt latch no longer aligns cleanly with the strike plate hole. Homeowners often respond by filing away metal on the strike plate or leaving the deadbolt disengaged altogether, relying solely on the handle latch. A door secured only by a handle latch offers minimal physical resistance and can be bypassed easily with basic prying tools.

Ensuring your door slab sits completely square, plumb, and level within its jamb guarantees that deadbolts throw fully into the frame pocket, locking the entire assembly into a rigid unit.
