CBD: Does it have a Role in Treating Cancer?

Does it have a Role in Treating Cancer

Recently, you may have heard the word about something called CBD. Over the past five years, simple CBD oils, tinctures, and treats have wrought huge changes on the holistic and traditional health markets. By 2022, it’s estimated that the global CBD market will have reached $22 billion USD, which is a higher rate of growth than nearly any other dietary supplement in the world.

It’s clearly not for no reason, either. Researchers and residents have recognized the potentially very beneficial boosts CBD could have to their personal health and wellness. Now, cancer patients are wondering if CBD tea for pain has any place in their treatment goals.

What is CBD?

CBD, the shortened term for cannabidiol, is one out of over one hundred active phytocannabinoids that constitutes both cannabis and hemp plants. Though many conflate CBD with marijuana, it is actually neither psychoactive nor does it cause any dependency.

In fact, in 2017, the World Health Organization stated that CBD was a well-tolerated supplement with a good safety profile and vanishingly small potential for addiction. Most legal CBD treatments have only trace amounts of the psychotropic compound THC, typically regulating substances with over 0.3 percent THC concentration.

Research has shown that CBD can help with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional health issues in users. CBD works by binding to particular receptor sites along the endocannabinoid system, also known as the ECS.

The ECS is a regulatory network of receptors that balances functions as diverse as mood, anxiety, appetite, digestion, inflammation, immune response, drowsiness, and much more.

In both the brain and the immune system, CBD can create powerful effects on the users’ anxiety, chronic pain, and a wide variety of autoimmune illnesses. Now, cancer patients are looking to both relieve their existing symptoms and combat cancer through integrating CBD into their medical regimen.

CBD and Cancer Treatment

Cancer and all of the pain that comes with it can seem like intractable issues. Over seventy percent of those who go through chemotherapy report severe nausea, excess fatigue, and a greatly reduced ability to function normally. It’s not only the disease that’s feared: it’s the lengthy courses of medical treatment that surround it.

Though it’s still far too soon to say anything conclusive about CBD, several studies are claiming to have demonstrated that the cannabinoids found in hemp can reduce tumor growth and induce tumor cell death.

One 2019 study allegedly showed that regularly consumed CBD could cause mass cell death among abnormal cells while healthy cells remained intact. These results, if proven, could have significant impacts on specific cancer treatments for pancreatic, breast, and skin cancer conditions.

The research isn’t limited to reducing or stopping the growth of existing tumors, either. CBD has also been linked to decreased risk of developing specific cancers and inhibiting the metastasizing response. Potentially, this could reduce the rate at which cancerous conditions progress and become deadly.

Additionally, CBD may act as a preventative factor that protects healthy consumers against getting certain types of cancers. Cannabis use is negatively correlated with developing bladder cancer and colorectal cancers.

However, some cannabinoids have been tentatively linked to suppressing the function of the immune system, which researchers theorize could make immunodeficient patients more susceptible to a handful of specific cancers.

Cancer patients should remain cognizant that CBD, and other organic hemp extracts, have only relatively recently been studied for their potential to treat specific types of cancers. While it clearly isn’t a compound that should be used on its own for treating cancer, it’s hard to ignore all of the promising signs of cannabinoids like CBD could do to the medical health markets.

Researchers are now focusing on future areas of study concerning that specific effect CBD has on particular cancers, the efficacy of different treatments, and how CBD herbal tea pain can configure into a traditional chemotherapy regimen.

CBD and Cancer Symptoms

One of the hardest parts of cancer is the medical treatment surrounding it. In the United States, chemotherapy tops the list as residents’ most feared medical operation, owing to its reputation for mood disturbance, physical pain, and extreme nausea.

Many cancer patients have turned to cannabis-based treatments, such as CBD tea for pain, to help combat the worst symptoms of their cancer treatments. These reports aren’t merely anecdotal, either – researchers have been suggesting that cannabinoids easy several varieties of pain conditions for over two decades.

Whether it’s nausea, neuropathy, body aches, or diminished appetite due to the cancer treatment, CBD tea health benefits can be massive. CBD tea is well regarded as a powerful anti-anxiety, analgesic (pain reliever), and anti-inflammatory.

Compared to primary cancer treatments, CBD tea has very few side effects and is considered generally safe by most major national health advisory organizations. However, some users may experience appetite changes, diarrhea, excess fatigue, and dizziness after consuming CBD for an extended period of time.

These symptoms may mirror the effect of cancer and cancer treatments, meaning that it’s important you get the right dosage and advice from a medical professional before self-treating the condition.

CBD herbal tea pain may cause negative interactions or complications with certain prescription medications, such as muscle relaxants, sedatives, antibiotics, or anti-depressants.

Ultimately, most users tolerate CBD treatments very well and find that it has improved their quality of life. All over the world, nations’ liberalizing stances towards organic hemp have allowed cancer patients – and everyday consumers – greater control over their own health. The CBD tea health benefits are potentially limitless.
