Incumbent President Joe Biden announced that he would withdraw from the 2024 United States presidential election (SEMISLOT88) which will be held on November 5.
Joe Biden conveyed the news of his resignation via social media. He said this was the best decision for the Democratic Party as the supporting party and also for the country.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. Although my intention is to run for re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and country if I step down and simply fulfill my duties as president for the remainder of the term,” Joe said in a statement Biden.
Biden then confirmed that he would speak in detail to the public about his resignation this week.
He did not forget to express his appreciation to Kamala Harris who had accompanied him as US Vice President during his term of office.
“I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an incredible partner in all of this work,” he said.
“And let me express my sincere appreciation to the American people for the trust you have placed in me,” Biden said to Americans.
Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 US Presidential Election, as reported by Reuters on Sunday (21/7), came after the Democratic Party lost confidence in his mental condition and ability to defeat his competitor, Donald Trump.
Democratic Party officials were worried and tried to persuade Joe Biden to cancel his plan to run again for president this year.
The Democrats’ push for Biden comes following the president’s political performance which was said to have declined during the campaign, especially after the first debate with his rival, Donald Trump, on June 24.
Biden’s performance in the debate has Democrats worried that the president may not be healthy enough to serve a second term.
Trump’s electability also continues to outperform Biden in most election polls so far. The Trump shooting incident is also said to be increasingly profitable for the former president in this election.
Until now, it has not been announced who will replace Joe Biden in the 2024 US Presidential Election.
