What are the Best times of Year to trek in Nepal?

What are the Best times of Year to trek in Nepal?

Nepal is a paradise for backpackers and the best destination for people looking for a long and cheap vacation that rejuvenates their lives. The mountains of Nepal have been home to many adventure lovers for many decades now, and if you are thinking of ever visiting Nepal, this article is a must-read. Since the mountains are cold and dangerous, you cannot just get up and pack your bag. You need to plan your trip for at least a month and then choose the appropriate month for travelling. And this article is here to suggest you the best time to visit Nepal.

The trekking season in Nepal has been categorised into two criteria.

On season

Autumntrek in Nepal: The month of Autumn lasts from September to November in Nepal, and this is the month with the highest number of tourists. Autumn in Nepal is the peak season for all mountain treks, including the Manaslu Circuit trek, the most popular trek in Nepal with Himalayan Masters and the Everest base camp trek. Due to the clear sky and awesome view of the mountains, many people trek in Nepal during Autumn. Since there is no rainfall or snowfall in Autumn, the trial remains dry and safe for travellers. The only trouble with trekking in Autumn is the big crowd of tourists in the mountains. During this season, the accommodations in the mountains are overbooked. October has the highest number of tourists, and if you are coming to Nepal in October, then you must plan and pre-book your stay well.

Spring trek in Nepal: Spring is another beautiful season for trekking in Nepal. Spring marks three months of March, April, and May when the temperature in the mountain is a bit higher, and you can trek without any rainfall and snowfall. While some areas around Pokhara Valley get rainfall in Spring, most of the trials remain dry and welcoming. The most beautiful part about trekking in Spring is the full bloom of rhododendrons that cover the entire forest of the mountain. Also, the crowd in Spring is a bit low, and you can enjoy the solitude of nature all by yourself. The downside of trekking in Spring is the sky is a bit cloudy, and the mountains might not be visible in the evening.

Off-season

Summer trek in Nepal: June, July, and August are the warmest months of the year but also the wettest month. Summer and monsoon in Nepal come together. The mountains and the lower hill receive constant rainfall during June and July, making your trip to the mountain a bit difficult. As the rain falls, the trail to the mountains becomes slippery, and it becomes difficult to hike. Also, the incidence of pests and leeches in the summer is very high. If you are trekking in summer, you should rather go for a tour around the city, such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. Manang and Mustang are great for the summer if you want to trek in the higher mountain area.

Winter trek in Nepal: December, January, and February are three months of Winter in Nepal. While mountains are already very cold, regular snowfall and the negative temperatures of Winter are not going to make it any easier. Trekking in Nepal in Winter is possible only at lower altitudes that lie below 3000 m of sea level. Early December does not see any rainfall, and most of the snowfall clears up until February. If you want to travel to the high mountains of Nepal, all you need to do is avoid January, and you are good to go. However, if you must travel in the holiday season of December and January, then you can choose a rather low-altitude trek as the Ghorepani Poonhill trek.
