The plot of the reviewed game is good. The dialogues are not great, but conceptually I think the general idea of the timeline of events related to the plot is very cool. On the other hand, there is no shortage of topics for subsequent parts of Werewolf: The Apocalypse – The Heart of the Forest in our country. For example, the clearing up of the forest surrounding the Mountains, and relatively recently the Łódź electoral office wrote that despite the hunting ban, the forests are full of hunters during the pandemic because, as they claim: “We have to squeeze the season to the end.”
To make matters worse, a week ago the police detained a 42-year-old hunter from the Biłgoraj district. The man is a member of a hunting club in Zwierzyniec. Games available on download games free pc. He shot a six-year-old wolf in the Roztocze National Park. Six-year-old Kosy was a male raising four-month-old puppies. Killing the wolf was a death sentence for the puppies. Kosy was wearing a telemetry collar and was part of a research project. This is probably why the police took such decisive action. The hunter faces five years in prison. The slightly less traumatic story of the lupuses is one of the threads of the Werewolf: The Apocalypse – The Heart of the Forest plot line.
Gateway drug to the World of Darkness
The only serious objection that comes to my mind when it comes to the plot of the reviewed production is the same that can also be leveled at the first part of Coteries of New York. Conservativeness towards and dosing of lore. In other words – tutorialization. The screenwriters are fully aware of the nuances of the setting and dispense information. Players who are taking their first steps into the World of Darkness should be satisfied. Users familiar with the World of Darkness setting may feel a bit unsatisfied. The limited source mechanics hold together relatively well, but for players Werewolf: The Apocalypse – The Heart of the Forest will look simply dilettante.
Going beyond the margins and adding something that is not just a dry description of the archetypality of factions (i.e. tribes) is not likely to improve, but it is also a plus not to be too obvious when the figure of the man responsible for logging appears – i.e. the Minister of the Environment. Instead of going into any nuances with Pentex, we get a simple but clear parallel to events from the reality we know. When we read the description in the game, we immediately know which minister it is.
I was missing some twist that would be a wink to players familiar with the setting. Instead, we got a safe dosage of lore and mechanics, which becomes painfully biased. It is understandable that no one wants to scare potential new players away from the World of Darkness universe, but this slow hand-holding discourages them from enjoying the story being told. Although, as last time, I am aware that these are my subjective feelings from the position of a user who would prefer to be thrown into deeper water, both lore and plot nuances relating to the world around us.
The driving force behind World of Darkness has always been geopolitics and history. All supernatural shadow cabinets and associations such as the Society of Leopold, the Second Inquisition or congregations of magicians can be linked to events known to us from history. Moreover, in the Call of Cthulhu setting, a good script also best suits the context of the era and geopolitical framework, such as the interwar period, which has recently been fashionable in this setting.
Graphics and sound
The art in Werewolf: The Apocalypse – The Heart of the Forest is really cool and this is probably the strongest point of this product. The graphic design is mystical and dreamlike and correlates with how Werewolf: The Apocalypse can be told in a metaphysical way. Unfortunately, the sound design doesn’t keep up with it at all. Someone might say that it is minimalist. No, it’s not. There simply wasn’t enough money, time or intuition for it, or it was simply neglected. It sounds very weak. Worse than the kickstarter Encased. In both of these Eastern European productions, the issue of musical setting was completely ignored. The creators of Encased wanted to make their own Fallout and forgot how memorable the ambient background set in the sleepy town of Modoc was. Compared to what was done with the OST for both parts of Coteries of New York, the track in the werewolf Heart of the Forest sounds terrible. Consider the fact that all three games can be purchased at approximately the same price.
