In recent months, information has appeared about the potential development of the J.K. universe. Rowling through new stories from Warner Bros. I don’t want to go into details, I’m not going to think about unnecessary words spoken or written, because Hogwarts Legacy is a production that has been developed by Avalanche Software for many long years and the developers deserve to focus on their work. The game draws heavily from the books, evokes many pleasant memories, but it tells its own story and in this review I intend to focus on this adventure.
Harry Potter? No, but Hogwarts Legacy draws on his magic
The action of the reviewed Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 19th century, many years before the events in the books by J.K. Rowling, so we don’t meet famous characters during the adventure. The player has the opportunity to create a character who, at the very beginning of the game, must go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to start learning, but the creators did not decide to give us the eleven-year-old. The protagonist starts learning from the 5th year, which allowed the developers to present a slightly more mature story, and at the same time, during the year we have the opportunity to learn literally all the basics that young students learn for several years.
It’s not every day that a new and mature student arrives at Hogwarts, so after the first adventures and wearing the Sorting Hat, we receive a textbook. The professors of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry have prepared a special program so that an older adept of their knowledge can master the knowledge as quickly as possible. The book also serves as a collection of information about the game, we have all the missions in it, we can look at the map, use fast travel or simply change clothes – I must admit that Avalanche Software was a very positive surprise here, because the developers came up with a very good idea, not only to offer us an older student, but also provide basic knowledge at an express pace.
The main character and his story
However, the main character is not… an ordinary teenager who unexpectedly received a letter from Hogwarts. The first 30 minutes of the game confirm one thing – players have the opportunity to control a unique person with a certain power. He is the one who learns new spells without any problems, he immediately grabs a broom and shows his skills by flying around the school buildings, and he also has no problem taming the griffin. After the first few missions, you’ll hear other kids start talking about the “new student” who instantly becomes the talk of the entire school… sound familiar?
Hogwarts Legacy free download draws heavily on the work of J.K. in many places. Rowling by throwing an individual into the castle walls, who, like Harry Potter, becomes the “most recognizable”. The creators, of course, did not put a mysterious scar on his forehead and did not build a dark legend, but it quickly turns out that players have the opportunity to participate in an interesting intrigue that takes about 25 hours to build. The developers even made an interesting reference to Potter’s first adventure, when he had to go to Diagon Alley to buy a few basic things for the first days of learning… in Hogwarts Legacy we have an almost identical plot.
In one of the first scenes, the protagonist discovers that he has a mysterious power that is the basis for the entire story – I’m not going to go into details, but it quickly turns out that the power lies in selected people, and several Hogwarts professors have been guarding its secret for years. However, players cannot count on a peaceful story, because the introduction confirms the bad news for the entire world – two thugs have learned information about magic and want to obtain it at all costs. It is at this point that the race begins, because the young student must undergo a series of tests, prove his worth, and ultimately save everyone.
