The World’s First AI Engineer Born – Will “Code Monkeys” Disappear in the Future?

Programmer engineers have developed AI programs to replace themselves in coding, leading to the possibility of their own demise? With the birth of the world’s first AI engineer, Devin AI, such a scenario may become a reality.

Recently, there has been a heated debate about whether the AI era still needs programmers. Industry leaders such as Robin Li and Zhou Hongyi have expressed their opinions on the matter. Will there still be programmers in the AI era?

The Birth of the World’s First AI Engineer

Robin Li, the chairman and CEO of Baidu, recently stated that there will no longer be a profession called “programmer” in the future because anyone who can speak will possess the ability to code. He said, “In the future, there will only be two programming languages left: English and Chinese.”

Many artificial intelligence experts have shared the programming process of AI programmers on social media platforms.

With the development of large-scale models, AI capabilities have become increasingly “unbelievable” and can even perform coding tasks. Recently, it was reported that the world’s first AI software engineer, Devin, was born. It possesses full-stack skills and can handle tasks such as cloud deployment, low-level coding, bug fixing, and even planning and executing complex engineering tasks that require thousands of decisions.

“The first AI engineer seems very promising. What is impressive is that Devin was able to stand out in interviews at top AI companies and successfully complete the tasks,” shared an artificial intelligence expert on a social media platform. Several videos of Devin’s programming have also been circulating on the internet.

Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, also recently stated, “In the future, we will all be able to program calculations, and children are already doing amazing things with AI. They don’t know how to code; they just chat with ChatGPT, and it provides feedback on the correct programming methods to do this and that. So, AI and future human communication are no different. This is a great contribution of the computer science industry to the world, narrowing the technological gap.”

According to information from HunterX, they are also about to launch an innovative product that may change the way programmers work. Traditional programming requires programmers to have profound coding skills, but HunterX’s AI code generator simplifies this process, allowing users to simply input prompt keywords to automatically generate the required code.

Will Programmers Completely Disappear?

Zhou Hongyi, the founder of 360 Group, has a different view on whether programmers are still needed in the AI era. He believes that the AI era will require even more programmers. He said, “Computer science and the programming industry are still sunrise industries and have the most promising future. This trend will not weaken in the next five to ten years.”

Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, also recently stated that for current large-scale language models, programming may be one of the most challenging tasks. He said, “We cannot fully predict the future direction of AI. AI seems to have an impact on many professions, including graphic designers, customer managers, doctors, and industry executives. So, I don’t think whether programmers should be singled out for separate discussions.”
